DVDown Under Turns 2
It was a couple of days ago (17th June to be exact) that DVDown Under turned
two, and what a scary thought that is.
Before DVDown Under came to fruition, some may remember that my DVD web site partner in
crime, Paul, ran the original site, DVD Station.
DVD Station was initially a mixture of both region 1 and region 4 DVD news and Info, as
back then DVD in Australia was only in its true infancy. After I boughts me DVD
Player for Christmas I came across Paul's site and asked him if he'd like me to do some
reviews for him. Before he could say yes, I was reviewing DVDs and DVD Station was
split into 2 distinct sections, region 1 news (run by Paul) and region 4 news run by Matt
(me :). Wanting to Australianise my part of the site as much as possible the Aussie
section was named DVDown Under. (2 years later and people still screw up the spelling and
pronunciation of that name...jeez, you try to be clever and look what happens :))
Not long after, Paul was going to pull the plug on the entire site!!!! so I jumped in and
pretty much took over the whole thing (yes I do have a imprint on my forehead that says
STUPID! :). On the 11th August 1998, DVD Station and DVDown Under merged back into
one site, with the entire website renamed to DVDown Under.
Then In December of 1998, Paul and I thought we'd expand our little 'ol DVD site by
selling a variety of Home Theatre products, accessories that weren't easy to find around
the place. So We Started off with the DVD Case
Covers (for those Bloody Awful snapper cases! ..sorry but I think they suck!, the
cardboard cases that is, not our fine product :).
Being a pair of clever little vegemites, we decided to name our On-line(ish) Store....DVD Station (clever huh? :) and In not
too much time we also started to sell the Amaray cases,
Brackley Cases, QED
Cables and DTS Plaques (the underlined text does
in fact Link to the appropriate pages..a shameless plug I know :)))Well over Two and a half years have past since Paul started this DVD
web site, and not only have we been fortunate enough that my dear 'ol pal Cass bought
herself a DVD player and got in on the review act as well [with so many DVDs now being
released here every month] but every week between 1000 and 1500 visitors drop
by our site to see what's happening in DVD Land. The amount of region 1 news on
DVDown Under has pretty much vanished since we began, which is a good thing as it has been
to make room for more News and Reviews from our every growing Region Number 4.
Here's to at least another 2 years of DVD'ing Down Under :)
Happy DVD'ing
Matt Goldsmith, Paul James, and Cass Nunn

A VERY JUICY
RUMOUR
Now if everyone crosses their fingers, this will no doubt come true, honest!
From a rather reliable [witness protected] source, DVDown Under was told that in addition
to Columbia Australia releasing the already known about JAWS DVD the same date as
the USA (with this whole simultaneous worldwide release business), there would ALSO be
another Spielberg Blockbuster (that's really a double conundrum isn't it! :) to
receive Simultaneous world wide DVD release.
Actually, make that TWO more Spielberg Films to be released on DVD Simultaneously across
all regions!!!!!
Yep that's right JURASSIC PARK and The Lost World are also rumoured to be
released on DVD here in OZ this coming October!!!!
Sweeeeeeet. Most likely ours won't be available with a DTS 5.1 audio track (like
Jaws), though it would be nice to hear it the way God intended :)
